Trust in Jesus Christ

Guest Poster: Ricardo Seguel writes today’s post. Ricardo is Ph.D. student at the Eindhoven University of Technology.  He lives in Eindhoven with his lovely wife Cristina. He’s originally from Chile, he is passionate about the Word of God and music. He’s a young friend of mine from my International Church in Eindhoven, Netherlands.

Today’s reading: Psalm 35-38

During our life we meet many people at college, university, church, job and so on.  By our human nature, we always get closer to some people and the relationship becomes a friendship, in some cases.  However, everyone has been disappointed, at least once, when trusting in somebody who we have been later deceived.  Indeed, that hurts. But there exist one who is faithful and trustworthy: Jesus Christ, our Lord.  He never fails.

We have read King David’s life during last weeks and we have seen that he fell and sinned as well as all those around him – wife and children. (April 26th – David’s sin with Bathsheba – A very sad day )  King David looked to God every time and put his trust in Him and God never left David alone.  God always answered David’s plea.  On that trust and faith of David, God talks to us in today’s reading.

Psalm 37:3-8 (NIV)

3 Trust in the LORD and do good;
dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.

4 Delight yourself in the LORD
and he will give you the desires of your heart.

5 Commit your way to the LORD;
trust in him and he will do this:

6 He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn,
the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.

7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him;
do not fret when men succeed in their ways,
when they carry out their wicked schemes.8 Refrain from anger and turn from wrath;
do not fret—it leads only to evil.

God encourages us to commit our way to Him.  Everything that we do, everything that we want to do or everything that we will do, we have to tell Him.

Psalm 37:34 (NIV)
34 Wait for the LORD
and keep his way.
He will exalt you to inherit the land;
when the wicked are cut off, you will see it.

Psalm 38:15 (NIV)
15 I wait for you, O LORD;
you will answer, O Lord my God.

  • If you have received Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and if He is your best friend, then why are you not going to tell Him everything in your prayers?
  • Are you really trusting in Jesus Christ?
  • How is your faith in God? (and your hope on the hope-meter?)

So, the Lord loves those that trust in Him and He blesses them:

Psalm 37:28-29 (NIV)

28 For the LORD loves the just
and will not forsake his faithful ones.
They will be protected forever,
but the offspring of the wicked will be cut off;

29 the righteous will inherit the land
and dwell in it forever.

Those that walk with Jesus Christ, those that have put their trust and faith in God, they are not forsaken, they and their offspring are blessed:

Psalm 37:25 (NIV)
25 I was young and now I am old,
yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken
or their children begging bread.

The Lord is refuge and defense of those that trust in Him, He saves them and He protects them:

Psalm 35:23 (NIV)

23 Awake, and rise to my defense!
Contend for me, my God and Lord.

Psalm 37:39-40 (NIV)

39 The salvation of the righteous comes from the LORD;
he is their stronghold in time of trouble.

40 The LORD helps them and delivers them;
he delivers them from the wicked and saves them,
because they take refuge in him.

The God’s love overflows for those that trust in Him:

Psalm 36:5-7 (NIV)
5 Your love, O LORD, reaches to the heavens,
your faithfulness to the skies.

6 Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains,
your justice like the great deep.
O LORD, you preserve both man and beast.

7 How priceless is your unfailing love!
Both high and low among men
find refuge in the shadow of your wings.

Psalm 36:8-10 (NIV)

8 They feast on the abundance of your house;
you give them drink from your river of delights.

9 For with you is the fountain of life;
in your light we see light.

10 Continue your love to those who know you,
your righteousness to the upright in heart.

Finally, you can realize that there are many, many blessings: for those that trust in Jesus Christ; for those that put their faith in God, and for those that righteously walk with God. Yes, our God is awesome .

How is your trust relationship with God? Is Jesus Christ your best friend?

God bless you.
