Jesus is our Jubilee

Today’s ReadingLEVITICUS 23:1-25:23

Today in our reading come to read a review of various festivals and special events to remember:

  • Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread
  • Celebration of First Harvest
  • The Festival of Harvest
  • The Festival of Trumpets
  • The Day of Atonement
  • The Festival of Shelters
  • The Sabbath Year

Then in Numbers 25 we come to the year of Jubilee.  A very special Sabbath year, full of meaning.  The Year of Jubilee was a year of rest, no planting – no reaping.  A year to set slaves free. A year to settle old debts and it is a year to be forgiven.   There is much meaning in the year and it is powerfully symbolic of all that Jesus can do for us.

Check out this song from Michael Card (note – there are some introductions for the first 1:25 minutes – wait, the song is worth it) :

Michael Card – Jubilee

The Lord provided for a time
For the slaves to be set free
For the debts to all be canceled
So His chosen ones could see

His deep desire was for forgiveness
He longed to see their liberty
And His yearning was embodied
In the Year of Jubilee

Jubilee, Jubilee
Jesus is our Jubilee
Debts forgiven
Slaves set free
Jesus is our Jubilee

At the Lord’s appointed time
His deep desire became a man
The heart of all true jubilation
And with joy we understand
In his voice we hear a trumpet sound
That tells us we are free
He is the incarnation
Of the year of Jubilee

Jubilee, Jubilee
Jesus is our Jubilee
Debts forgiven
Slaves set free
Jesus is our Jubilee

To be so completely guilty
Given over to despair
To look into your judges face
And see a Savior there

Jubilee, Jubilee
Jesus is our Jubilee
Debts forgiven
Slaves set free
Jesus is our Jubilee

About plimtuna

I am just an average guy trying to find his way along this journey of life. I am definitely middle aged. I am definitely happily married with a wife and two children. Personally, I have a passion for things eternal. Professionally, I have a passion for things that are securely in control.
