Today’s Reading: Deuteronomy 3:21-5:33
Today’s guest poster is Joyce Geerts: Joyce and her husband Stefan are friends of mine from our international church. Joyce comes from Malaysia and has been a Christian for 20 years. They are wonderful servants in our Children’s church ministry. She has been a faithful reader and commenter of this blog.
Deuteronomy 3:26b – 27 NIV
…”That’s enough !”, the Lord said. “Do not speak to me anymore about this matter. Go up to the top of Pisgah and look west and north and south and east. Look at the land with your own eyes, since you are not going to cross this Jordan…
Moses lamented over God’s judgment upon his disobedience at Meribah (Numbers 20:9). He was supposed to speak to the rock instead of striking it in anger. He did not give glory to God, nor did he follow God’s precise command. He disobeyed and his plea was denied.
God gave Moses clear instruction for him to comply, yet he did not. Does this sound like us at times? How obedient are we to God’s command in our daily walk with Him?
Though Moses was forbidden to enter the Promised Land, yet God allowed him to go up to the top of Pisgah to look at the land with his own eyes. It is grace, ….His grace which is abundant and amazing. Are we ever aware of and acknowledge His grace in our lives ?
What can we learn from this?: Obey God’s commandments always, irrespective of any circumstances, even though He is infinitely patient, our rebellions or disobediences, either minor or major will bring regrettable results. We have to face the consequences and be accountable personally.
On the other hand, if we fall or fail, do we have room to plea for His grace and mercy or shall we totally lose hope? How does our Almighty God respond? He will definitely respond graciously, he restores lovingly and he reinstates compassionately. He grants panoramic views of our inheritance from the peak of Pisgah of our lives. Just as Moses’ case He fulfilled His plan by commissioning Caleb and Joshua to go further and inherit the land – the Promised Land .
Thought for today’s reading:
Psalm: 112:1 NKJ
Praise the Lord!, Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who delights greatly in His Commandments.
Pisgah (Mt. Nebo)
